One question that I came up with during class was, “why are some people unable to accept LGBTQ?”. A lot of kids in schools or even family relatives are unable to accept other people being gay or lesbian. People are still hateful and cruel to the ones that finally have the courage to come out. I believe that people are still hateful towards LGBTQ because of religous reasons, or taking their parents views as their own. Gay marriage is still a recent law that has been passed. However, people have been coming out more and more even before the law passed. In addition, even when it is legal people still suffer from being ashamed of who they are. Most of the people in their teen years have parents that don’t think it is okay to be gay. The parents that are against people being gay then pass those views down to their kids. That is when we witness discrimination. Teens in school still are getting bullied for liking someone that is the same sex, or wanting to be a different gender. Even if more and more people are coming out, they still face discrimination or physical abuse. We need to realize that we can’t decide who we choose to love, it just comes naturally. Nobody should ever be punished for loving someone, whether they’re gay, lesbian, transgender, or even straight. We need to treat LGBTQ like they are normal, because they are. It may take years for people to understand that they too are human and have feelings, but I think one day we will all be equal.
